Abstract


The author observed relationship between the behavior of 62 children (3 to 7 years old) who under-went an oral examintion on their inital dental visit and mother¢¥s anxiety as measured by scores on manifest anxiety scale (MAS) The obtained results were as follows
1. A statistically significant relationship was observed between the behavior of children and their mother. More specifically, children whose mothers had low anxiety levels as measured by score on the manifest anxietyscale scwould exhibit more positive or cooperative behavior in the dental situation than those children whose mother¢¥s had high anxiety level.
2. The mother¢¥s answers to the child¢¥s past behavior to the past medical :procedure was significantly related to the observed behavior of child in the dental treatment.
3. Mother¢¥s prediction of their child¢¥ s reaction to the procedure -was related
:significantly to the observed behavior of the child in the dental treatment.
4. Factors such as sex, age, number of children in the family had no demonst-
able effect on the child behaviors.
